Public Relations Coordinator Position Description

Job Title: Public Relations Coordinator

Department/ Agency: Sister Nancy Hynes Institute for Women’s Leadership

Length of Position: Academic Year, 8 – 10 hour work award

Function/ Description of the Position:
The primary purpose of this position is to promote the Institute for Women's Leadership to the student body by creating and managing a marketing plan executed through various projects including (but not limited to): website design, creating emails, posters, brochures, t-shirts, etc.  In addition, the PR Coordinator will create and edit a monthly newsletter. The student in this position will have the opportunity to advance her portfolio by creating these various promotional materials. Additionally, the Public Relations Coordinator will be expected to perform basic office duties and assist visitors to the Institute.

This position is intended for a student who has an interest in issues related to women. The student in this position will be expected to gather information on these issues and work collaboratively with the other staff members to promote programs sponsored by the Institute to the student body, faculty, and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the other Institute staff members to understand and promote their
    respective events and programs
  • Manage the Institute for Women’s Leadership website
  • Update the events calendar on the Institute for Women's Leadership website
  • Create, Edit, and Publish the Institute’s Monthly Newsletter
  • Promote the Institute for Women’s Leadership through applicable venues
  • Greet, assist, and direct visitors to the Institute
  • Attend regular staff and advisory board meetings
  • Communicate with various on-campus departments about the Institute’s initiatives
  • Answer the phone and perform other various office duties
  • Special projects determined by Student Director

Minimum Qualifications to Perform the Duties of the Position

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Experience in leadership of people and projects
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work both individually and as a team member
  • Background in gender studies or interest in learning more
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Publisher
  • Ability to find creative approaches to projects
