Career Services encourages students to make the most of winter break
Have you heard a Bennie or Johnnie talk about how strong the alum connection is for CSB/SJU? On Nov. 6 the CSB/SJU network was in action when 197 alums came back to campus for the sixth annual Career EXPO; the alums spent the day talking with students, sharing their expertise and providing advice. Our alums feel a strong connection and commitment to CSB/SJU and continue to be a resource and mentor to students as they engage in career exploration.
Career Services often encourages students to engage in job shadows or informational interviews to learn more about careers they are considering. These experiences not only help solidify students' interests in a career and help them feel more confident in their career goals, they can also help them learn that a career may not be the best fit. The career staff encourages these interactions, we coach students to successfully connect with alums, and we provide our students with a database (CANE) of over 32,000 alums willing to share their contact information with students and serve as a resource and/or mentor.
The CANE database is available in the career resource centers (Academic Services Building - CSB; Mary Hall - SJU) on each campus. Students do not need an appointment to use CANE and can walk in Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. and a career assistant can help them get started.
Now is a great time for students to reach out to alums and set up job shadows or informational interviews for winter break. Help us encourage your son/daughter to utilize this valuable resource and to stop in to career services to identify alums to contact.
