Students work to repair a house as part of a previous ABE trip.

Instead of heading to a beach somewhere for spring break, 113 CSB and SJU students have opted to volunteer for service projects in locations near and far.  The students are participating in what's called an Alternative Break Experience (ABE).

Each year, Campus Ministry at the College of Saint Benedict gives both CSB and SJU students the opportunity to participate in ABE trips.  These experiences explore social justice, along with community, reflection, learning and intentional living.

There are a total of 12 ABE trips for spring break 2014:

  • San Lucas Mission - Guatemala
  • Fundacion Mahatma Gandhi - Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic
  • Yambiro, Ecuador
  • Center for Student Missions - Philadelphia
  • Ghost Ranch - Abiquiu, New Mexico
  • Habitat for Humanity - Stroud, Oklahoma
  • Rebuilding Together - New Orleans
  • Vincentian Volunteers - Colorado
  • Immigrants and Refugees - St. Cloud/Cold Spring
  • Operation Breakthrough - Kansas City
  • Sex Trafficking Awareness - St. Paul Minnesota
  • Center for Persons with Disabilities - Logan, Utah

Campus Ministry also offered four ABE trips during winter break as well to Texas, California, New Jersey, and the Dominican Republic.  Learn more about the Alternative Break Experience.
