A Commitment to Generational Learning
Through a lens of community and generational learning, the Saint John's Pottery uses hands-on experience to develop skills and techniques to support artistic work using sustainable materials. In conversation and through the integrated way these skills are acted out, the Pottery Studio teaches through the development of a deliberate and compassionate lived system.
The Saint John's Pottery offers many unique educational opprotunities: a formal apprenticeship program for recent college graduates; coursework, internships and work-study interactions for students of Saint John's University and the College of Saint Benedict; special projects with local and visiting artists; as well as lectures, workshops, and consultations.
With the exception of ART/ENVR 200A and individual research projects, the Saint John's Pottery is primarily a non-credit educational space, production studio, and residency program. Individuals seeking enrollment in traditional ceramics courses should contact Samuel Johnson in the CSB/SJU Art Department Benedicta Arts Center clay studios.
