South African nursing students and faculty members visit CSB and SJU
This is the fifth year the South African students have visited CSB and SJU for a short-term program,the delegation consists of six people from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, which visited CSB and SJU for a two-week period ending Sunday, Jan. 27. Avilasha Ghosh, final year sociology student from St Xaiver's College in India, visited CSB/SJU last year. When interviewed by the local media when she went back to India, Avilasha said: "After the one month trip to CSB/SJU, I have made up my mind to pursue my masters degree in the US. Bridget Gohmann, Xai Vang and Aaron Stolte conducted research focused on three separate conservation and re-vegetation projects around the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River in a summer research initiative with Southwest University in Beibei. The students worked in conjunction with graduate ecology and botany students of Li Changxiao, professor at Southwest University. See more...
Intern in Bosnia/Herzegovina learns a smile speaks volumes
Jenna Franklin spent eight weeks as a nurse intern in Bosnia/Herzegovina, and not knowing the language, she found that hugs and smiles could speak volumes. The Bosnia/Herzegovina internship dealt with the historical and cultural aspects of the country following the 1992-1995 war, Franklin said. "I've lived so comfortably and safe in Oregon until I was 9, and in Utah, and I wanted to experience how other people live in another part of the world." See more...
CSB/SJU wins the 2012 Senator Paul Simon Award for Comprehensive Internationalization
The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University have received the 2012 Senator Paul Simon Award for Comprehensive Internationalization by NAFSA: Association of International Educators. Internationalization at CSB and SJU has achieved great success. CSB and SJU internationalization initiatives are focused in three areas: developing a globally competent faculty, a curriculum which is embedded with intercultural and global content and students who graduate prepared for life in an interconnected and globally competitive world.
